Boomer Esiason shredded Richard Sherman as "hypocritical" after controversial hit

Richard Sherman still taking fire for controversial hit

Richard Sherman is taking a lot of flak for a controversial play last  Monday night against the Bills that ended with him leveling kicker Dan Carpenter while attempting to block a field goal.

CBS Sports analyst and former Cincinnati Bengals great Boomer Esiason is the latest to weigh in, calling Sherman "hypocritical" for saying one thing and doing another.

"I don't think Richard is a dirty player, Esiason said. "I just think he's hypocritical. Two weeks prior, he basically said that the NFL doesn't care about its players - the NFL doesn't care about injuries, and I'm paraphrasing a little bit here. He was very strong in the commentary, and it got picked up all over the place. And then, lo and behold, he goes out there - and I do believe this is a dirty play, because he is so far offside. And we've seen a lot of guys in the same situation just pull up and they know that there's going to be a penalty and the play's going to stop. I think it was an error in his judgement and I do think when you put together with what he said a few weeks ago, he looks like a hypocrite."

Meanwhile, the NFL fined Sherman $9,115 for the hit, arguing that it came after the whistle. Sherman was also caught up in a bit of a Twitter feud with Carpenter's wife, Kaela, over the hit, in which she suggested he should be castrated. Sherman responded to the tweet with a simple "Thank you! Have a great day."
