Cam Newton couldn't help himself, and his celebration cost his team a touchdown

Cam Newton was really excited.

Cam Newton was really excited when linebacker A.J. Klein rumbled his way to a 95-yard touchdown to put the Carolina Panthers on top of the Baltimore Ravens early Thursday night.

He was so excited that he ran onto the field while the play was going on, resulting in an illegal substitution penalty.

The ball was placed back around the 25 or so, and the Panthers would eventually score again, but Newton will need to get this out of his system before the season kicks off.

It's a relatively new rule that league seems pretty serious on enforcing this season.

"I just got too excited," Newton told reporters after the Panthers fell, 22-19. "I was hoping they would give a warning."

This is probably the closest thing Newton will get to a warning.
