Did a position just open up for Colin Kaepernick?

One franchise's misery may result in an open spot.

Despite having spent the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft on Blake Bortles, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not won a lot of football games.

This is where Colin Kaepernick enters the picture.

Mike Dempsey of 1010 XL in Jacksonville spoke with the Jaguars' owner, Shad Khan, on Thursday and asked him if signing Kaepernick was a real possibility.

"Absolutely," Khan said, noting he would follow the advice of his football operations staff should they recommend signing Kaepernick.

It appears the experiment with Bortles is nearing an end, considering his own wide receivers have become visibly frustrated with his play.

If the Jaguars did sign Kaepernick, many would surely be upset, given his national anthem protests. However, from a football perspective, the team doesn't have much else to work with at this point. Chad Henne is a serviceable backup, but he's not a franchise quarterback.

Maybe Kaepernick catches fire and becomes yet another quarterback to have a remarkable second act. Kurt Warner did it. Michael Vick did it. Randall Cunningham did it.

All of their cases remain unique and far different from the shoes Kaepernick wears, but they all were able to recapture greatness in a new city.

Or, and this is another option, let the ship sink a little bit deeper until Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen come to the rescue. But, hey, just thinking out loud over here.
