Doug Martin’s drug suspension is going to cost him a ton of money

Doug Martin could have never imagined that his latest transgression would have such dire financial consequences

Doug Martin's suspension is shaping up to be the most costly lapse in judgment he's ever experienced.

The fifth-year Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back was suspended by the NFL this week for violating its policy on performance enhancing drugs, and it's about to have a massive impact on his wallet.

Martin is set to lose abut $1.5 million of his base salary over the last game of the season Sunday and the first three games of the 2017 season. What's worse, according to ESPN's Adam Shefter, Martin's suspension could nullify his $7 million salary for next season.

Martin signed a five-year deal last offseason worth a reported $35.75 million, including $15 million in guaranteed salary and bonuses. But those guarantees will no loner stand as a result of the suspension, putting him in jeopardy of losing his entire $7 million salary in 2017.
