Drew Brees may not have been a New Orleans Saint if this reported trade had actually gone down

The Cowboys and the Saints would have vastly different arcs if this had happened

A decade ago, back in 2006, the New Orleans Saints made a play for Tony Romo. And if it wasn't for head coach Bill Parcells blocking the trade, the Drew Brees era would likely have never happened.

Saints head coach Sean Payton was an assistant coach with Dallas at the time and, along with Parcells, was instrumental in developing the then backup Cowboys quarterback. The Saints reportedly offered a third round draft pick for Romo, but Parcells and the Cowboys wanted a second round pick so the deal never saw the light of day.

Payton was hired by New Orleans soon after and brought in Brees. Romo became the Cowboys starter that same year after an injury to Drew Bledsoe. All that said, Parcell's stubbornness set off a chain of events that could have drastically changed the course of the league over the past 10 years.

Could Romo be on the move after Dak Prescott's emergence in Dallas? Who knows what Romo would cost now after consecutive years of serious injuries. When healthy, though, he remains one of the best gunslingers in the league.
