NFL officials called one of the worst "defenseless player" penalties ever

Buffalo moved to 6-5 on the season, while Kansas City fell to 6-5.

During Kansas City's attempt to rally Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, refs made a horrendous defenseless player call that could have come back to haunt the away team.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith dumped off a pass to running back Charcandrick West, who took a hit from Bills defensive back E.J. Gaines. Somehow, after a brief discussion with other officials, they ruled this a hit on a defenseless player:

Luckily for Buffalo, and the refs, Smith would throw an interception to seal the game.

But it was way too close for comfort, and completely the official's fault.
