Eli Apple must miss the success he found playing college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes because he apparently cares more about his ties to the Buckeyes than he does for his ties to the New York Giants.
Apple, who was drafted in the first round of the 2016 draft by the Giants, has brought plenty of heat on himself in the wake of New York's 30-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas running back Rod Smith, another former Buckeye, caught an 81-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter that essentially iced the win for the Cowboys. Dallas was up 17-10 at that point and Smith's backbreaking play put the game out of reach for the Giants.
That's par for the course for New York, which slipped to a 2-11 record, but Apple, who was inactive for the game, inexplicably retweeted an Eleven Warriors post on Smith's big play. Remember, it was that big play that cost the Giants the game.
When pressed on the matter by a fan, Apple responded by backing up his Buckeye blood:
It makes sense that Apple is proud of his Ohio State ties and sure, there's nothing wrong with being proud of one of your former teammates. With that said, when said teammate basically iced your team out of a game, perhaps it's best for your personal reputation with your team and your city, to keep your congratulations private.
