Former Cowboys QB has shocking opinion on who is the team's best player

This is a surprise.

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and NFL journeyman Babe Laufenberg was asked who the best player is on the current Cowboys' roster, and he had a very surprising answer.

Laufenberg, who currently serves as the team's color analyst on the radio, told the Dallas Morning News that offensive guard Zack Martin is the best player on the roster.

"I would actually lean toward guard Zack Martin," Laufenberg said. "Athletically, he won't win a footrace or a body building competition, but I am not sure there is a better player in the NFL at what he does. Great pass blocker, can get to the second level to reach linebackers and can pull with the best of them. Total stud."

The Cowboys selected Martin with the No. 16 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he has been one of the best guards in football ever since.

Martin has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the league, and he was named to a first-team All-Pro twice. He was named to the second team in the other year.

Most fans probably would've expected Laufenberg to name Ezekiel Elliott or Dez Bryant as the best player on the team. Even Dak Prescott or Sean Lee would likely be a more popular pick than Martin. But Martin's production over the last three years is unrivaled, and he has been a very important part of the Cowboys' dominant offensive line.

By this time next year, Elliott or Prescott might take over the top spot on Laufenberg's list. The Cowboys' offense is full of young stars, and they all helped make Dallas one of the best teams in the NFL last season.
