Former first-round pick's career is in jeopardy after tests reportedly reveal extremely serious health issue

He had just signed a new four-year deal.

This doesn't sound promising at all.

Per Jennifer Hale of FOX Sports, defensive tackle Nick Fairley has missed Saints OTAs after tests revealed heart issues that "could jeopardize future of his career."

Fairley had signed with the Saints last year after two down seasons with the Lions and Rams. Fairley had a bit of a career renaissance in New Orleans, recording 43 total tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2016. He played well enough that the Saints had awarded him with a four-year, $30 million dollar contract in the offseason.

Fairley was selected with the No. 13 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Lions. He won a national championship while at Auburn, and was the 2010 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
