A quarterback who hasn't won a single playoff game is poised to become the highest paid signal caller in history

It's good to be a quarterback in the NFL.

So, who's going to be the best paid quarterback ever? Tom Brady? Aaron Rodgers? Russell Wilson?

Nope, nope and nope again.

How does Matthew Stafford sound?

NFL.com is reporting that the Detroit Lions and their long-time quarterback are beginning wor on an extension expected to pay him at least $25 million annually. No quarterback in NFL history has made that much. So far, Andrew Luck's $24,595,000 is tops.

Stafford is an 8-year vet whose career record is 51-58. He's had just three winning seasons during that time and been named to the Pro Bowl once, in 2014, when the Lions have their best year (11-5) under his leadership. For his career, he's completed 61.5 percent of his passes, and thrown for 187 TDs against 197 INTs.

While that kind of coin might sound like a lot Stafford, remember that the NFL is in a place in which Mike Glennon gets $14.5 million a year and Brock Osweiler gets $37 million guaranteed.

Regardless of what you think about Stafford, he's unlikely to hold the top spot long. Kirk Cousins could command more after this season - he'll pull down a hair under $24 million this season — and Rodgers certainly will when he becomes a free agent after the 2019 season (albeit entering his age-36 campaign).
