NFL admits huge officiating mistake by handing down this fine to Richard Sherman

This is why the NFL can't have nice things.

Buffalo Bills fans are undoubtedly still smarting from the Monday Night Football loss to the Seattle Seahawks this week. Their kicker was almost taken out of the game and many people didn't appreciate Sherman knocking over a receiver running a route on the last offensive play of the game either.

However, the offsides call on Sherman was the more controversial of the two plays. Not only did Sherman clearly jump too early, but he went right for Carpenter's leg and the call was only offsides rather than unnecessary roughness. However, this fine handed down to Sherman from the NFL would say otherwise.

I'm sure Bills fans would love that play back as they got five yards on the play, but then got called for a delay of game after that play and Carpenter missed the long field goal. He almost certainly makes the kick if the correct call was made and the Bills are given 15 yards because of the penalty.
