NFL and Roger Goodell are about to get a "win" with latest innovation on the field

More than two dozen teams have gone in on this.

Roger Goodell and the NFL have been heavily criticized for how they've handled concussions and brain injuries in the past, but the league is about to make drastic changes to help in that realm.

According to Inc.com, 25 different teams have purchased a new helmet which was designed to help with head injuries. The helmet, called the ZERO1, will be used by teams next season. The ZERO1 is made by a helmet company from Seattle called Vicis.

"We've learned a lot about how we could make the helmet better and refine it," said Vicis CEO Dave Marver. "The Zero1 has a soft outer shell and a core layer consisting of a series of bendable columns.

"These "crumple zones," inspired by and named after the parts of a car meant to crush on impact to reduce the force of a crash, allow it to absorb some of the energy of a collision."

Here's a video detailing the helmet and its features:

Any improvements to aid player safety is vitally important for the NFL. The league has had several former players battle concussions and brain injuries, and many players suffer from CTE later in life.

Head-to-head collisions are nearly impossible to avoid in football, but a helmet that helps with player safety would be a massive improvement for the NFL and Roger Goodell.
