The best rookie quarterback has been Dak Prescott, and it hasn’t been particularly close.

Prescott was chosen by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round, and he has been far more successful than first round picks Jared Goff, Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch. draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah polled five NFL executives about this upcoming quarterback class, and one executive said Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly could be the next Dak Prescott.

The executive said, “I’m not a fan of this QB class, but I think Chad Kelly could be a value pick with some upside.”

Jeremiah said Kelly and Cal quarterback Davis Webb were the two most intriguing quarterback prospects to him.

“Davis Webb and Kelly are the two most interesting players, to me,” Jeremiah said. “Both guys have big-time arms, the ability to avoid pressure and big sturdy frames. Kelly won’t be able to participate in the Senior Bowl because of an injury, and that could open the door for Webb to really stand out from the group. At the beginning of the year, I thought Webb would get picked in that Cousins/Prescott area of the draft. However, as we get closer to the spring, it’s starting to look like he could be long gone by that portion of the draft.”

Kelly finished his career at Ole Miss as one of the most prolific passers in school history. In less than two seasons, he threw for nearly 7,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. He’s had some off-the-field issues that might prevent him from being drafted sooner, but the talent is certainly there.
