NFL head coach is having emergency surgery

This is kind of scary.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer's status for Thursday night's game is now in doubt. The third-year head coach will go under the knife tonight for emergency eye surgery. Here's a statement from general manager Rick Spelman.

"Mike Zimmer is having emergency eye surgery tonight. His status for coaching tomorrow's game is uncertain. I have met with the coaches and players and we have a contingency plan in place if Mike is unable to coach against Dallas."

No other details were provided by the team. Spelman will hold a conference call Thursday morning with an update and hopefully more details. The 6-5 Vikings are hosting the 10-1 Cowboys.
