It looks like the New York Giants are hoping to accelerate to the end of this fiasco with Josh Brown, as the team announced on Tuesday that they had released the embattled kicker.
"Our beliefs, our judgments and our decisions were misguided," said Giants president John Mara in a statement. "We accept that responsibility."
The Giants and the NFL had come under fire in the past week when it was reported that Brown admitted to the team that he was abusing his wife. Brown was arrested for the alleged abuse in May 2015, but no charges were ever filed.
"Based on the facts and circumstances that we were aware of at that time, we were comfortable with our decision to re-sign him," Mara said in a previous statement.
Brown released his own statement via the team.
Brown has been in the NFL for 13 seasons, playing with the Cincinnati Bengals, St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks before joining the New York Giants.
