Unspeakable tragedy strikes a former NFL player, who cops say accidentally kills his little girl

Our hearts go out to the family.

Police in Mesa, Ar., say Todd Heap, a former NFL player, accidentally hit his 3-year-old daughter with his truck and she died of her injuries.

The tragedy was reported by KNXV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Phoenix.

KNX-TV reported that the girl was in the driveway of her home when Heap went to move his truck just before 4 p.m.  local time. That's when Heap, 37, accidentally hit her, police say. She was rushed to the hospital, but died.

There was no other information at this time.

Heap, a first-round draft choice for the Baltimore Ravens in 2001, played a total of 12 seasons in the NFL, 10 with Baltimore and two with Arizona. He's a two-time Pro Bowl selection who retired following the 2012 season. He played his college ball for Arizona State.
