With questions at QB, potential Super Bowl contender reportedly eyeing replacement

Could this actually happen?

Ben Roethlisberger announced this offseason that he would be returning to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017-18. However, Roethlisberger retiring this offseason wasn't out of the question, so it should come as no surprise that the Steelers might elect to find his successor in the 2017 NFL Draft.

One name the Steelers have been previously linked to, Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer, is reportedly in play for the Steelers in the first round.

"According to a report from WalterFootball.com's senior draft analyst Charlie Campbell, the Steelers are trying to gauge other teams' interest in Kizer. Essentially, they're trying to figure out whether he'll be available when the Steelers go on the clock with the No. 30 overall pick in the first round."

Kizer, unlike Patrick Mahomes, DeShaun Watson and Mitch Trubisky, will likely be available when the Steelers are on the clock at No. 30.

With Roethlisberger around for at least one more year, this would put Kizer in a much-needed situation where he wouldn't have to start right away.
