WWE may have changed its mind on John Cena's rumored Survivor Series match

Earlier this year, Cena tied Ric Flair’s record of 16 world championships when he defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE title at Royal Rumble.

Survivor Series is right around the corner, and reports initially had matches slated for John Cena and WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

After initially being slated for a tilt with Bray Wyatt, WWE apparently isn't advertising Cena for Survivor Series any longer, according to Still Real To Us.

While he may not appear at the November premier show, Cena left no doubt in his WWE future on Wednesday.

Cena dispelled any rumors of his retirement, confirming to TMZ that he will "never" retire from WWE because "they're family."

After his No Mercy match, Cena claimed he felt like there was "a giant burden being lifted off (his) shoulders" and credited Reigns for proving his worth as a potential heir to his role as WWE's "top guy."

He also confirmed that though he won't be totally walking away from professional wrestling, he will take on a different role as he gets older and pursues ventures outside of WWE.

"I think my role is different. Regardless of if I have outside opportunities or not, I'm 40 years old. I don't know how much longer I can keep going. I have to know when to say when. I'm not done, but I don't know if I can go at the pace I've been going. I guess I'll be like a weird Batman character, when they shine the light, I'll come coming."

Earlier this year, Cena tied Ric Flair's record of 16 world championships when he defeated AJ Styles to win the WWE title at Royal Rumble. While it seems inevitable that he'll break the record eventually, perhaps it will be delayed given his busy filming schedule outside of the company.
