The Rock and Hulk Hogan crossed paths as wrestlers throughout their legendary careers, but Dwayne Johnson recently told an incredible story of when he was a kid and met Hulk Hogan.
During a promotional interview for the remake of Jumanji, The Rock told the story of when he was at Madison Square Garden to watch his dad, Rocky Johnson, wrestle at an event. The Rock said he was a Hulkamaniac, and he was in the front row to watch Hulk Hogan fight. Hogan took off his Hulkster headband and threw it into the crowd, and The Rock caught it.
But it was the story after that was so entertaining.
“I go in the back of the dressing room when the matches were over and I go to my dad and I was like ‘look, I caught Hulk Hogan’s headband!’ And he was like ‘oh that’s cool, that’s awesome! Take it home.’
“But then Hulk Hogan was right over there taking off his wrestling boots, right, getting ready to shower. And I’m like ‘damn, I want to go over and just say hello to him.’
“So I went over to him and I was like ‘Mr. Hogan… I caught your headband!’
And he goes ‘Oh man, that was my last one! I didn’t want to throw it out, thank you so much!’
“I [gave Hogan the headband back] was like ‘oh… OK, you’re welcome.’
…. But here’s how cool Hulk Hogan was. Two weeks later he had like thousands more made, went to my dad, he goes ‘hey I signed this for your son. He gave me my only one back and I needed that one to make 1,000 other copies.’ And he goes ‘give this back.”
It’s such a cool story, and even cooler since The Rock became such a huge star, and he and Hulk Hogan later battled in WrestleMania X8.
