It’s not surprising that Georgia Tech still owns the record for the most lopsided victory in the history of college football for their monumental 222-o dismantling of Cumberland College back in 1916.
It’s a record that, unless football is played in the boundless reaches of outer space someday, should stand until the end of time.
The game was every bit as ridiculous as the score would have you believe. Georgia Tech, who went by the moniker “Engineers” back then, led 63-0 after the first quarter and 126-0 at halftime.
And Georgia Tech scored on every single one of its possessions. Even more telling is the fact that the Engineers did not attempt a single pass in the game. And they didn’t need to — they rushed for 978 yards and 32 touchdowns.
