A favorite is reportedly emerging for the Auburn offensive coordinator job

Former Auburn coordinator Rhett Lashlee left for the OC job at UConn.

A week after losing offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee to Connecticut, it looks like a favorite could be emerging for a replacement, and it's a man that Auburn fans know very well.

According to Travis Haney of 247Sports, Texas A&M offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone is "in the mix" for the Auburn job, and Mazzone could even be the leader of the search.

Mazzone was formerly the offensive coordinator from 1999-2001 under former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. If Mazzone were to rejoin the Auburn staff under Gus Malzahn, though, it could cost a pretty penny; Haney is also reporting that Mazzone has a $1.2 million buyout in his contract if he leaves A&M for another SEC team.

However, it doesn't look like everyone is on board quite yet. Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle recently reported that Mazzone won't be leaving Texas A&M.

Regardless, Auburn needs to fill the position quickly before National Signing Day in February.
