It did take a while this week for Oregon to finally part ways with now former head coach Mark Helfrich, but it looks like they aren't wasting any time in potentially naming a replacement.
According to FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman, South Florida head coach Willie Taggart is emerging as a "strong candidate" for the Oregon job.
Lane Kiffin, Jim McElwain, and Chip Kelly have also been rumored for the position.
Taggart helped delivered the first 10-win season in South Florida history this year, which is a turnaround from a 2-10 record in Taggart's first season back in 2013. Taggart's name had been rumored for multiple jobs, but it looked like he was slowly becoming a candidate for the 2017 coaching carousel after LSU and Texas moved on very quickly in their coaching searches.
Helfrich is out at Oregon after failing to maintain the lofty standards set up by former head coach Chip Kelly. The Ducks are now in a rebuilding stage, and Taggart may be one of the best coaches available at tackling that process.
