After poor combine, surefire first-round RB’s coach fires back at critics

Coach is not going to stand for the hate on his running back.

Dalvin Cook had an illustrious career at Florida State and will likely overtake Warrick Dunn as the greatest running back in school history after breaking a myriad of the former NFL star's records. However, Cook's performance at the NFL Combine was not as equally great. While he showed how strong he is for a running back —- he benched 225 pounds a whopping 22 times —- he did not show his agility and quickness that he's got on tape.

He had a solid enough 40-yard dash time of 4.49 seconds, but was in the bottom three when it came to the 20-yard shuttle (4.53 seconds) and three-cone drill (7.27 seconds). Those are generally drills that tell scouts and NFL personnel how well a running back can cut and make adjustments through gaps and Cook disappointed there, but his former coach in Jimbo Fisher came to his rescue when he spoke to the media before spring practice on Monday.

"Turn the tape on," Fisher said Monday. "How come all the fast guys couldn't catch him? How'd he run away from all those guys?"

That is a great point of course, and his production on the field more than speaks for itself. He had 48 total touchdowns in his three-year career and rushed for over 4,400 yards.
