A former Alabama player is now suing Lane Kiffin

This is a weird story in every way.

Lane Kiffin and Alabama just can't quit each other and, this time, the weird relationship between the two parties is headed to court. Christopher Walsh of SEC Country brings word that former Alabama wide receiver Antonio Carter is bringing a lawsuit against Kiffin and details include the following:

In the complaint, submitted Tuesday in Shelby County, Ala., where Carter resided, he claims Kiffin deliberately misled him regarding a job on the FAU football staff in order to benefit from his family relationship with a prospect.

However, after believing he had been hired and the prospect accepted a scholarship with the Owls, Carter was notified by school officials that he didn't pass the required background check and would not be employed "due to two prior minor misdemeanor criminal charges."

This type of situation is extremely sticky given what could have transpired behind the scenes but further details indicate that Carter believed he had a job in the bag at FAU, where Kiffin now leads the program.

Carter claims that after being assured by Kiffin that his employment was "done," he and his wife quit their jobs and he traveled to campus to help the Owls on National Signing Day. He specifically was tasked with recruiting the previously mentioned prospect and two others who FAU successfully signed.

The lawsuit doesn't mention the primary recruit by name, but it refers to him as being a former 4-star prospect who at one point signed a letter of intent with Florida, became a junior college player and hailed from Carter's hometown of Tallahassee, Fla.

This isn't the first time that Kiffin has faced scrutiny for something that happened at FAU, as he already employs former Baylor assistant Kendal Briles. Furthermore, it isn't exactly as if Kiffin displays a flawless reputation for dealing with people and it will be interesting to see how much fire there is with the smoke in this lawsuit.

For now, we know only what is reported and what is listed in initial court documents but this should probably be considered a developing story. Stay tuned.
