Alabama’s “focus” during spring practice should finally please Tide fans

An effort to expand the offense.

Alabama was seconds away from winning back-to-back national championships despite having limited success in the passing game throughout the season.

Head coach Nick Saban said Tuesday he's trying to fix that.

"We have really limited the quarterback runs this spring and we're focused on trying to develop a better passing game," Saban said to the media.

Alabama's offensive coaching staff looks completely different heading into next year. The Tide have a new offensive coordinator in Brian Daboll, and Saban brought in two new offensive analysts in former Heisman trophy winner Chris Weinke and former Ole Miss offensive coordinator Dan Werner.

Saban said he's always had "a lot of respect" for Weinke, and he cited Alabama's struggles with the Ole Miss offense in recent years during his praise of Werner.

Jalen Hurts had a very successful freshman season at Alabama, though he was inconsistent at times as a pocket passer. Hurts completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 2,780 yards, 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions, but the Tide's dynamic receiving corps was underutilized for most of the year.

Hurts did rush for 954 yards and 13 touchdowns, but it's clear Saban wants him to focus more on the passing game so the Alabama offense isn't as one dimensional next season.
