Earlier this week Florida head coach Jim McElwain informed the media that rising sophomore wide receiver Antonio Callaway as well as rising junior quarterback Treon Harris have not been with the team all spring, and there was no timetable for either of their returns. On Friday, Callaway's attorney Huntley Johnson released a statement regarding his client's status with the team.
According to Johnson, Callaway has been on an interim suspended from the University of Florida since "early December" of last year for an incident which violated the University's Student Code of Conduct. Johnson claims that the school's allegation has "no merit," and the investigation has not been closed. Johnson's full statement can be read below, courtesy of the Tampa Bay Times.
"The suspension was due to an incident which supposedly occurred in early December 2015.
Mr. Callaway is on interim suspension from the University of Florida pending resolution of the accusation.
At this time the University of Florida has not presented to Mr. Callaway or Undersigned Counsel any evidence relating to Mr. Callaway's suspension.
Be that as it may, the law firm of Johnson & Osteryoung has conducted its own investigation as to the allegation that is the basis for the suspension.
There is no good reason why this investigation has not been closed.
This allegation has no merit."
There was no mention of Harris in the statement, and it is unclear as to whether or not Harris is being represented by Johnson as well as Callaway at this time. This story will continue to be updated.
