Auburn officially names a starting quarterback

Finally!

It's time.

No Thursday, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn officially named redshirt sophomore Sean White the team's starting quarterback for the team's Week 1 game against No. 2 Clemson.

White started several games last season, taking over after Jeremy Johnson proved to be ineffective as a starter. White wasn't much better, but he showed some promise and seemed more consistent as the starter.

He also didn't nearly blow a game against Jacksonville State, so he had that going for him.

White threw for 1,167 yards and one touchdown in seven appearances in the 2015 season. While he stats weren't too impressive, he often looked like the future starter even though he was thrust into the starting role during a terrible time for the Tigers.

White won the job over Johnson and Florida State transfer John Franklin III. It will be interesting to see just how Franklin is used in the future, as the dual-threat still has some potential to be a piece of the offense as a backup.

Watch White react to being named the starter in the video above.
