Auburn starter suffers injury during team's spring game

Some bad news, but some good news as well.

Auburn's annual spring game went off without a many problems on Saturday, but one injury suffered by the offense may have some fans worrying.

During the game, Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson suffered a high-ankle sprain that ended his day early. Johnson was the starter for the first-team on Saturday, as top running back Kamryn Pettway was already held out as part of his own injury recovery from last year.

According to AL.com, the injury doesn't concern head coach Gus Malzahn. Even though high-ankle injuries can be fickle over time, there is a lot of time between now and the start of the season for the junior running back to fully recover.

The good news for Auburn on offense is that transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham performed extremely well in the game, and he looks like the quarterback that Auburn has needed ever since the departure of Nick Marshall. If Stidham's performance is even remotely similar in season, then Auburn will have a real chance to compete in the SEC West this upcoming season.
