Securing home field advantage through the NFL playoffs is such an edge, it's often seen as a foregone conclusion that any team lucky enough to do so can essentially write their own ticket to the Super Bowl.
But not according to Bill Belichick. When asked by reporters recently about how much of a plus home field advantage actually is, the New England Patriots head coach gave a typically measured, wit-filled answer. (He makes the comment towards the end of the video, which comes via NESN):
"I don't know, go ask Dallas and Kansas City," Belichick replied. "The game's won by the players on the field. That's who wins games. The players."
Both the Cowboys and the Chiefs were fortunate enough to have home field advantage in their respective playoff games last week, but it did little good as both lost.
We'll see how much it means for Belichick and the Pats Sunday when they square off against the Steelers in the AFC Championship game in Foxboro.
