Career of former Alabama, Dallas Cowboys standout may be over at just 27 years old

He was productive when he played, but off-field issues have done him in.

After yet another offseason arrest, former Alabama and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain's football career might be over.

McClain was arrested in Hartselle, Alabama on firearm and drug charges, and the 27-year-old was released on $2,000 bond.

McClain didn't play last season after he was suspended 10 games for his second violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. He also didn't show up to Dallas Cowboys' training camp in August, and he was suspended by the team.

McClain was a standout linebacker under Nick Saban at Alabama from 2007-2009, and he helped lead the Crimson Tide to a national championship in 2009. McClain won the Butkus Award for the best linebacker in college football for the 2009 season.

The Oakland Raiders drafted McClain with the No. 8 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft, but his tenure in Oakland was tumultuous. He was demoted during his third season with the team, and he was kicked out of a team meeting in 2012. He announced his departure from the team via social media.

The Baltimore Ravens claimed McClain off of waivers, but he retired from football to focus on correcting his anger issues.

After he decided he wanted to play again, the Dallas Cowboys traded for him for the 2014 season. McClain was very productive that season for the Cowboys, and he also had a good season for them in 2015 despite missing the first four games due suspension.

Now, after another arrest, it seems as if McClain's playing days are over. It's unlikely any team would want to take a chance on him given his checkered past off the field. His production on the field probably wouldn't warrant signing him anyway.

McClain was once one of the best linebackers in the country, and it's a sad story to watch his career unfold this way.
