It's no surprise that Colin Kaepernick has received death threats because of his national anthem protest. It is surprising, however, that he's chosen not to mention it to 49ers security.
According to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Kaepernick said Tuesday he's gotten "death threats via multiple means since he began his protest of racial inequality and oppression and hasn't alerted team security to those threats because he believes if something were to happen to him, it would only be proving his point."
Kaepernick has refused to stand during the national anthem since San Francisco's preseason game against Green Bay last month, calling attention, he said, to police brutality and racial injustice in the U.S.. His comments afterward caused a media firestorm which has largely persisted to this day.
"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL.com "To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."

The protest has grown to include other NFL players as well as professional and amateur athletes in other sports. Kaepernick has said the support has only fueled his position and he has no plans to end his protest.
