A medical emergency resulted in the death of a 20-year-old Northern Michigan college football player, according to MLive.

According to the report, Anthony Herbert worked out early Tuesday morning before heading to breakfast and returning to his room, where EMTs were later called. Attempts to resuscitate Herbert were reportedly unsuccessful.

“What caused his passing is unknown at this time and right now our concern is for Anthony’s family, friends, teammates, coaches and team staff, teachers and fellow students,” said University President Fritz Erickson in a statement.

Herbert, a 6’4″, 315-pound right guard, started 11 games during the 2016-17 season. The college football player was only a sophomore.
