Did Jerry Jones' big mouth push away the Cowboys best option at reserve QB?

Way to go Jerry.

With Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's injury-prone nature, Kellen Moore breaking his ankle at training camp was disastrous for the franchise.

In desperate need for another backup quarterback, and only rookie Dak Prescott as an option behind Romo, the Cowboys reportedly had serious interest in free agent Nick Foles, before he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs late Wednesday night.

But that "serious interest" came on the back of comments by team owner Jerry Jones that, "Foles wasn't an option," per ESPN.

He continues:

"We can't get him any snaps," Jones said. "We got four that are going to get snaps."

So the Cowboys, who went 1-11 without Romo last season, couldn't have found some snaps for Foles, an established veteran with starting experience?

Instead, Jones wanted to rely on Prescott and a practice squad quarterback Jameill Showers behind Romo and Moore?

Foles started 10 games in 2013 for the Philadelphia Eagles, throwing for 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions. His numbers dropped over the next two seasons, with a seriously depleted unit in Philly and Tavon Austin as his best target in St. Louis, Foles tossed for 20 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Folks was drafted by Andy Reid in Philadelphia, and he'll reunite with his former head coach in Kansas City.

With Michael Vick and Johnny Manziel openly seeking an opportunity in Dallas, the options are limited for the Cowboys.
