ESPN’s John Clayton thinks a massive NFL trade will go down

The Patriots preparing for a stunner?

For several months, there has been plenty of speculation on whether the New England Patriots will trade backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo before next season.

The Patriots reportedly want at least one first-round pick in a trade for Garoppolo, and they could possibly seek more.

One team reportedly considering 3 options at QB, including a blockbuster deal for Jimmy Garoppolo

ESPN's John Clayton made an appearance on Scott and BR on Mighty 1090 in San Francisco, and said he thinks a deal for Garoppolo will happen with the Cleveland Browns.

"I think in the end, they have to come to some sort of Jimmy Garoppolo trade," Clayton said.

Clayton said since the Patriots don't have a first-round pick this year, he thinks they will make a deal for Garoppolo.

"That tells me, particularly with the Patriots not having a pick in Rounds 1 and 2, there's gotta be some kind of trade coming up with Jimmy Garoppolo," he said. "They need some volume. That's why I can't imagine them sitting there with a quarterback who's not gonna play next year because he's got Tom Brady on the team, waiting to get a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2018, when he can get a good group of draft choices now."

Clayton's ESPN co-worker, Adam Schefter, doesn't believe the Patriots will make a move with Garoppolo.

No one knows what the Patriots will do with Garoppolo, and it might remain a mystery until draft night.
