Even opponents think Chip Kelly is missing opportunities by starting Blaine Gabbert

It could be time for Colin Kaepernick to play, but the 49ers head coach isn't even entertaining the idea

Blaine Gabbert's production in 2016 is beginning to resemble what he did in 24 marginal starts with Jacksonville.

The sixth-year quarterback put up a meager 119 yards and one interception on 14-of-25 passing in San Francisco's 37-18 loss to Seattle Sunday, prompting some to question whether it's time for head coach Chip Kelly to turn to Colin Kaepernick.

"I just talked about him getting a chance to play again," Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett told the Seattle Times after the game. "I think he's a great quarterback. I think he's just missing his opportunities. Hopefully he gets to play."

Bennett, who's come out in support of Kaepernick's protest of the national anthem before games, which Kaepernick says it to demonstrate against racial injustice and police brutality, believes that Kaepernick is a better fit for the 49ers offense.

"I think Kaepernick gives the team a better chance of winning," Bennett said, "but that's just my opinion."

Kelly, however, apparently didn't even entertain the idea of putting Kaepernick in, despite Gabbert's inability to get off the mark.

Of San Francisco's first 10 drives, seven resulted in punts and they converted 4-of-15 third down attempts. Gabbert finished with a 51.9 passer rating. Still, though, the head coach was tight-lipped about Kaepernick, simply saying he had "no plans" of putting him in the game.
