New favorites are emerging for five-star QB Justin Fields after decommitting from Penn State

Fields decommitted from Penn State on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, five-star quarterback Justin Fields (6-foot-3, 221 pounds, Kennesaw, Ga.) turned the recruiting world on its head when he announced that he had decommitted from Penn State. While there were rumors that this was coming, Fields actually pulling the trigger on the move meant that one of the top quarterbacks for the 2018 class was back in play for a lot of teams.

With Penn State likely in the rear-view mirror, it looks like three new favorites have begun to emerge for Fields. According to Steve Wiltfong 247Sports, those schools are Florida, Auburn, and Georgia.

Wiltfong also mentions that Florida State is in the mix, but not quite on the same tier of the first three teams.

Of those three, Florida has started to emerge more as the outright favorite, as the 247Sports Crystal Ball was already trending towards the Gators before Fields announced his decommit from Penn State. However, there are still almost eight months until National Signing Day, so any team could conceivably catch up and grab Fields in that time span.

Fields is one of the top recruits of the 2018 recruiting class, ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and No. 6 overall recruit by the 247Sports Composite rankings.
