Nick Saban does not have a complete staff for 2017 and beyond at the moment and a familiar face to Tuscaloosa could be in the mix to join the Alabama Crimson Tide once again. Aaron Suttles of TideSports.com brings word that former Alabama director of football operations Joe Pannunzio has already interviewed for the opening on the staff as the tight ends and special teams coach.
The Tide have reportedly given thought to Florida State assistant and former Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster in joining the staff, but this would theoretically be under a different opening. Pannunzio was with the program during Saban's tenure from 2011 to 2014 before heading to the NFL to join the staff of the Philadelphia Eagles but his coaching experience was largely at the college level before that.
Pannunzio would theoretically provide another highly experienced voice on the coaching staff and he served as the head coach at Murray State from 2000 to 2005. It remains to be seen if Pannunzio is the front-runner for the position but the report indicates that "if offered the job, he is expected to accept".
With Nick Saban, Alabama fans can expect no stone to be left unturned when it comes to assembling the best staff possible and it might include Joe Pannunzio.
