The hometown kid is coming back to Georgia.

According to 247sports, former MLB first-round pick Jake Skole for the Texas Rangers is leaving baseball after five years or so to attend the University of Georgia

“I felt like I was spinning wheels some in baseball and I did not want that window for football to close up,” Skole said.

Skole was reportedly recruited by Florida State, Georgia Tech (where his brother played baseball) and Georgia over the last few weeks. He committed to Georgia on Saturday.

As for what position he’ll play, he’s still not sure, but it won’t be on offense.

“I think on the defensive side, I am not sure if it will be linebacker or safety, there were a couple of schools that wanted me to stick it out on the offensive side of the ball, but that was part of the reason I am going with Georgia, they want me on defense,” he said.

Skole graduated from a school in the Atlanta area in 2010 and committed to play at Georgia Tech over Georgia and Auburn before he was drafted.

Skole reportedly plans to enroll in January.
