Former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire would need a rule change to land at “mutual interest” destination

In three seasons at Notre Dame, Zaire completed 58 of 98 passes (59.2 percent) for 816 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions while rushing 72 times for 324 yards (4.5 ypc) and two TDs.

According to 247sports highly-coveted transferring quarterback Malik Zaire has interest from the Florida Gators,  but the school would need a rule change to land him.

The SEC requires graduate transfers to hit academic benchmarks, and if they don't, those schools are restricted from bringing in transfers for the next three years, per the report. Neither of Florida two transfers completed academic requirements in 2015, which make the Gators one team unable to land a transfer.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey noted in December the conference may review the rule at spring meetings, which has Florida hopeful, per the report.

Quarterback Luke Del Rio had offseason shoulder surgery, and with just redshirt freshmen Kyle Trask and Feleipe Franks behind him, Zaire would have a solid chance of taking over the offense.

According to the report, Zaire will also attempt to get a sixth year of eligibility, giving head coach Jim McElwain a solid foundation to build with Zaire possibly at the helm.
