Former Tennessee DE announces grad transfer destination

Looks like he's out of Knoxville.

It has been a couple of months since word broke that Dimarya Mixon was no longer a member of the Tennessee Volunteers football program. At the time, it was widely assumed that the talented defensive end would be moving to another stop as a graduate transfer and, on Monday, Mixon took to Twitter to announce his next destination.

The soon-to-be senior will be heading to SMU to play for Chad Morris.

Mixon, who measures at 6'4 and 260 pounds, took the field on 12 different occasions for the Vols in 2016 and he contributed eight tackles and a sack. Through his three-year tenure in Knoxville, he was productive to the tune of 19 tackles in 37 games but Mixon was suspended for his final game in a Tennessee uniform (the Music City Bowl win over Nebraska) and that was the end of that.

At SMU, he will be eligible immediately and, given his stature as an SEC-caliber recruit and player, it is safe to assume that Dimarya Mixon will be a factor right away for the Mustangs. On the Tennessee front, this is a loss that was already expected and accounted for but it will be interesting to see how Mixon adjusts to life elsewhere for his final college season.
