Florida State suffered a pretty puzzling loss to Georgia Tech Wednesday night. It was a 78-56 loss that could have been a lot worse as the halftime score was 41-15 in favor of the Yellow Jackets. While the Jackets didn’t shoot particularly well — they went 42.6 percent overall and 31.3 from deep — the Seminoles shot even worse and GT just seemed to make impossible shot after impossible shot.
We caught up with guards Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Terance Mann after the game and as much as they hated it, they agreed that Tech was just hitting some ridiculous shots. Mann in particular couldn’t believe how many of those crazy shots they were hitting.
“They hit a lot of tough shots. You know, a lot of tough, contested shots and they shot well from the free throw line. We didn’t.
“There was a lot of ’em [tough shots], I was like ‘dang if they one like that, they can’t hit another like that.’ And then they hit another one like that.”
While the game didn’t go the way the Seminoles hoped, Rathan-Mayes still believes that his group of guys are confident and will be ready for the game against Syracuse on Saturday.
“When we were down 28 we kept telling each other that we were going to win this game. We believe in ourselves no matter what the situation, no matter what we’re in. I think that’s the great part about us. We always stick together.”
You can see their full comments on the game in the video above. The Seminoles are now 18-3 on the season with a 6-2 conference record. The game against Syracuse is set to tip off at noon on Saturday in the Carrier Dome.
