FSU quarterback Sean Maguire talks about his devastating injury

Sean Maguire will miss the season opener against Ole Miss on Sept. 5.

Florida State got some very bad news over the weekend, as it was announced that redshirt junior quarterback Sean Maguire would have to miss 4-6 weeks thanks to a surgery that he needs to put a screw in his foot.

The quarterback will now be out for the season opener indefinitely on Sept. 5 against Ole Miss. If he is out for more time, that puts a Week 3 and 4 games at Louisville and at South Florida in jeopardy for Maguire. It looks like the job will now go to redshirt freshman Deondre Francois, who had been competing with Maguire. Maguire discussed the injury with reporters on Sunday, and showed signs of maturity with what he had to say.

"The past few days have been pretty devastating for me and my family," Maguire said via 247Sports. "I'm getting surgery tomorrow (Monday). After tomorrow, it's all about getting back to being 100 percent. That's pretty much the only thing on my mind."

Maguire added that the set back will likely make him more competitive when he does return to the field, whenever that may be.

"Yeah, it's been a roller coaster," Maguire said. "Competition brings out the best in people. I know that's a cliché answer. But you know what? When all of this is said and done I already know I'm a better player for it and a better person as well."

In eight games last season, Maguire threw for 1,580 yards and 11 touchdowns.
