Here’s the reason one recruit made his commitment at a gravesite

"It really wasn’t a friendship; it was like a brotherhood for me,"

Four-star defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis committed to Alabama and spurned his hometown LSU Tigers. The way he announced his commitment was very unorthodox.

Mathis announced his commitment at the gravesite of Tyrell Cameron, his second cousin and former high school teammate who died in 2015 after he was involved in a collision while covering a punt during his first game as a football player. Mathis honored Cameron through his commitment, and he told NOLA.com he wants to wear Cameron's No. 48 while at Alabama.

"It really wasn't a friendship; it was like a brotherhood for me," Mathis said. "Growing up in the same town. Played together, stayed together. He came by my house and all that. Until I got up to high school and he was still in junior high a little bit, I left. He was telling me, 'My momma moving tomorrow. I'm trying to come to Neville with you.' I remember that right there."

Mathis, a 6'4, 287-pound defensive tackle, is the No. 4 player from the state of Louisiana and the No. 7 defensive tackle. He is a part of Alabama's No. 1 overall class on 247Sports.
