Heroes of the Storm 2.0 event introduces new incentives for playing with friends

The event launched Tuesday.

As part of Heroes of the Storm's 2.0 restructuring, Blizzard have unveiled another community event to encourage players to bring their friends with them into the fray.

The event, which launched yesterday afternoon alongside the Heroes of the Storm (HotS) 2.0 overhaul, was revealed in a trailer on Blizzard's YouTube channel. Titled "The Nexus Challenge," the event will reward players for playing at least 5 matches with a friend every week with custom loot in both HotS and competitive shooter Overwatch.

The challenge, already available to be undertaken in-game, features skins and characters crossing over both games as rewards during different weeks. The rewards will only be available for players entering either Quick, Unranked, or Ranked matches with a friend, and will not be given in other game modes.

For a quick summary of the rewards, watch the above video, or check out our analysis below. Remember, these will only be available during this event - after that, they're back in the elusive Blizzard vault, possibly forever.

Week 1

The first week players will once again have access to the unique Oni skin for Genji, as well as to a new player icon and spray. Meanwhile, in HotS, a new banner, mount, portrait, and spray have been included.

Week 2

Week 2 provides access to an entirely new skin for Overwatch's D.va, which displays the popular tank hero in a futuristic police officer uniform, along with a custom design for her mech. HotS will have the similarly designed Busan Police Hovercycle as a mount.

Week 3

Unlike the previous two weeks, the third will not have unique skins for Overwatch heroes. Instead, Officer D.va icons, sprays, and portraits will be included in both games, and HotS will receive another new mount.

Week 4

The fourth and final week will reward players not with custom skins or portraits, but 10 of the much coveted loot boxes in both Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch.

It's also worth pointing out that all of these rewards, while released one week at a time, will still be available until the very end of the event. So, players will not be expected to play each week, but can instead go through all 20 matches on the final day if they so choose.
