It's unbelievable that Bill Belichick is so underpaid

Who says you have to win to be a head coach in the NFL?

Here's a head-scratcher for ya—-the NFL's best head coach barely makes more money than (arguably) its worst.

That's right, Pats head coach Bill Belichick takes home $7.5 million a year, while the L.A. Rams' Jeff Fisher makes $7 million annually. A side-by-side comparison of what each has done over the past 22 seasons shows how contrary to reason that really is.

Belichick's 255 wins during that span dwarf Fishers's 178. Fisher's also got considerably more losses in that time frame, with 169 to Belichick's 125.

Belichick obviously also gets the nod in terms of postseason success. He's made 14 playoff appearances to Fisher's six, and won the Super Bowl four times to Fisher's zero.

Yet, the 58-year-old, whose overall record in over two decades is a lukewarm (at best) 173-163-1 and consists of six winning seasons, continues to man the sidelines as an NFL head coach.

And, to boot, he just signed an extension that will pay him $7 million in 2017 and $9 million in 2018. There's almost no sense in trying to dissect why this even is. It just kind of is.

One thing's for certain, though. If Belichick is in fact the genius that everyone makes him out to be, this should serve as his ultimate bargaining chip.
