Steelers coach detained after alleged police altercation

Uh oh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers got a huge 30-12 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but it didn't come without a price tag. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his foot late in the game when he should have been on the bench and Steelers reporter Chris Mueller is reporting that outside linebackers coach and former player Joey Porter was detained by police.

The incident took place outside The Flats bar on East Carson Street following Pittsburgh's wild card victory over the Dolphins. The Steelers are aware of the situation according to a statement from Director of Communication Burt Lauten and the team does not have a comment at this time.

Dan Gigler of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Porter was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was released from Allegheny County Jail early Monday morning after posting a $25,000 bond. His first court hearing is Jan. 19.

Pro Football Talk says the league will likely begin its own investigation soon as to whether Porter violated the personal conduct policy, which applies to coaches as well as players.

Porter is in his third year as an assistant coach with the team after playing for the organization from 1999 to 2006.
