Johnny Manziel's friend says he "knows he's hit rock bottom"

Is Manziel running out of empty promises?

These days, it's nearly impossible to keep up with the comings and goings of Johnny Manziel. His promises to start a life of sobriety seemed to have taken a pause. But the good news is, Manziel knows there's no way to go but up from here.

At least that's what one friend told Page Six, stating Manziel has a one-year plan to improve his situation as he readies himself for football.

"He doesn't want to sit at home in his hotel room," the friend said. "He enjoys seeing his friends. Some of them are in nightlife and entertainment.

"He knows he's hit rock bottom and he's giving himself a year to get sober and get ready for football. He wants to play again. He really wants to turn things around and make people proud of him again. It's not going to end this way. He really wants to make that effort. He knows what he's gifted with ... The spotlight got to him."

We've heard similar pledges before, only to see Manziel retract them for the nightlife. Maybe a one-year plan isn't all that farfetched for Manziel to get clean. We will have forgotten about him by October, right?
