Kevin Durant's motivation after opening-night loss: "They called me a coward!"

Looks like KD's got some added motivation.

Kevin Durant's got some extra motivation after the Golden State Warriors endured a 29-point beat down at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs opening night.

He's using all the barbs and smack talk that have been thrown his way since signing on with Golden State in the offseason as fuel. During a workout Tuesday night, the former MVP shouted some of those criticisms at himself in between shots.

"They told me I ain't have no drive! I'm out here. They called me a coward! Putting in work," Durant can be heard shouting in video of the session. And he explained his process afterward.

"That's what I say to myself when I'm working," Durant said. "I hear it all the time. You hear the noise. You hear what they say about you. Everybody hears it. So it's a little extra motivation when you hear it. It's not that I read it — it's just in the air," he said. "You know it's just in the atmosphere and people tell you and you hear about it. You guys ask me questions about it all the time, so obviously I know, but I'm not losing sleep on it. It's just wood on that fire."

Durant doesn't believe the loss says a single thing about the Warrior's outlook for this season, either. He says the media, in particular, is overreacting.

"It's one game of 82 and you f—-ing guys make me feel like the world's going to end."

Golden State travels to match up against the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night.
