Kirk Herbstreit calls out Oklahoma QB after dumb remark

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit went in on Oklahoma's backup quarterback for what he thought was a dumb remark

Austin Kendall was not a household name in the college football world before this week, but now he certainly qualifies. Kendall, who is a freshman backup quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners, decided to provide bulletin board material for this week's opponent, Ohio State, as part of a televised interview.

The young signal-caller described Ohio State's defense as "basic" and said that starting QB Baker Mayfield would "light them up" on Saturday and, naturally, this did not go over well nationally. In fact, current ESPN analyst (and former Ohio State quarterback) Kirk Herbstreit took to Twitter to light up Kendall for making a decision that was anything but intelligent.

It has to be noted that Herbstreit has ties to Ohio State, but everyone agrees that Kendall did the wrong thing here. There is absolutely no upside for shining a negative spotlight on your opponent, and that is doubly true when the player involved will only see the field in the event of an injury to the starter in Mayfield.

Whether it has a tangible impact on the massive showdown this weekend is up for debate, but Austin Kendall made a very public blunder and Kirk Herbstreit joined the crew of people lining up to tell him about it.
