LSU AD may have eliminated a candidate by reportedly sharing list of requirements for next Tigers head coach

This poses a huge question.

Interim head coach Ed Orgeron has continued his push for the permanent head coaching gig with the LSU Tigers after running out to a 3-0 record and putting together a drastically revamped offense.

But winning a handful of games won't win him over the job, with the exception of Alabama, which might actually earn him the gig.

Instead, athletic director Joe Alleva shared a bullet point list of what he's looking for in the next head coach, via The Advocate. And the timing couldn't be more interesting.

  • He has to exhibit good leadership.
  • He has to have integrity.
  • He has to be able to motivate the team.
  • He has to have discipline and be accountable.
  • He has to have good organizational skills.
  • He has to possess adaptability, during a game and over time.
  • He has to be good at recruiting players and quality assistant coaches.
  • He has to exhibit good communication skills with players, fans, donors and the media.

The big question here is if Tom Herman has coached himself out of the running? Houston lost embarrassing games to Navy then SMU and nearly fell to UCF. Whether it's a motivation issue or adapting to being out of the running for the College Football Playoff (two points in Alleva's list), his team has looked horrendous in recent weeks.

Thus far, Orgeron has shown just about every one of these skill sets. He's a solid recruiter and has helped develop the LSU offense to match the team's defensive stature. The same goes for Jimbo Fisher, who actually makes the most sense at LSU if he's available.
